WHAT TO EXPECT

We start our journey in Anchorage. You'll fly in/out Ted Stevens Int'l Airport. We'll pick you up and drive you all over Alaska, well almost. On the way to Seward we'll visit the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center where there are all sorts of wildlife to photograph. Then a quick trip over to Portage and the glaciers that surround the area. Next, a quick trip over to Whittier. Very beautiful area. Then south to Seward. After a couple of days in Seward we head west to Homer on the Katmai Peninsula. We will be treated to some amazing landscapes and mountains everywhere. The wildlife we could see include bear, moose, elk, reindeer, and so much more. There are eagles and hawks all around us.

We take cruise to Resurrection Bay out of Seward, where we will see marine life including beluga and other whale, puffins, cormorant, harbor seal, and so much more! The Northwestern Glacier lies at the end of the bay. You'll love it!

Once in Homer we will experience a bear viewing excursion. This includes a flight on a float plane from Homer to the Redoubt Mountain Lodge, a delicious salmon lunch and of course countless bears in their own environment. We will be exploring the lake on a private pontoon boat for just our group, complete with our own captain who is very knowledgable about the bears we will meet and photograph. THIS is exciting!

You can't afford to miss this trip, seriously!

Itinerary

Friday August 11th

Saturday August 12th

7a - Meet in the lobby of our host hotel and we'll head for breakfast. We'll then hit the road southbound to visit The Alaska Wildlife Refuge, The Portage Glacier and end up in Seward. Lodging for the next four nights will be in Seward.

Sunday August 13th

Seward is surrounded by mountains on three sides and Resurrection Bay on the south. After breakfast we will head over to the Exit Glacier. Amazing views from the riverbed or we can make the hike up the hill.

Monday August 14th

Early morning sunrise session. We will visit the Alaska SeaLife Center in town. There is an old shipyard on the east side of the bay for you eclectic shooters, too.

Tuesday August 15th

Breakfast and then a cruise on Resurrection Bay out of Seward Harbor where we will see whales, dolphins, puffins and other marine life. Glaciers are also on this trip so be amazed. It's a full day of fun and photography.

Wednesday August 16th

Breakfast and then a 3 hour drive west to Homer and the Spit. There are many beautiful sights along the journey to Homer. Along this drive we will see Cooper Landing on the Russian River along with Russian early settlements and churches around Soldotna and Kaliforsky. Then Homer! The Homer Spit is a 4 mile long stretch of land that is . . . stunning! You really have to see this spot for yourself. We will stay in Homer for four nights at The Land's End Inn at the very end of the spit. Lot's to see and photograph!

Thursday August 17th

Breakfast and off to see the bears. Today we will board some sea planes and fly across the Cook Inlet to the Mt. Redoubt Resort. We then jump on our own pontoon boat piloted by Capt.' Mike as he cruises the shores of Crescent lake in search of bears! Oh, and we will see bears!! The beauty of a pontoon boat is that we are eye-level with the bears. We can get close and remain safe. The bears are busy getting fat for hibernation, so they really don't even know we are there!

Friday August 18th

Today we can have a leisurely day while we visit and photograph the local sights and sounds of Homer and the spit. There is the Alaska Islands Ocean Center, beaches, eagles, the marina and a lot more. If we are game, there is a great boat ride across the Katchemak Bay to Soldovia Village for a taste of the old world village life.

Saturday August 19th
We have a lot more to explore and photograph. We'll spend the day around the western coast of the Cook inlet.

Sunday August 20th

We head back to Anchorage. It'll be a leisurely drive as there are a lot of beautiful landscapes to photograph. We will lodge in Anchorage tonight.

Edge of a Dream.jpg

We will be staying at multiple lodges throughout the trip. It's all part of this Road Trip investment.

LODGING

Camera, tripod, filters, lenses, shutter release, Hoodman loupe and whatever other gear makes you happy. Also bring your laptop with Photoshop and Lightroom already installed and working. Sunscreen, sunglasses, bug spray and a hat

are advised. Having layers of clothing is great

as you can take off and put them back

on as the temperature changes. Having rain

gear available is not a bad idea either.

Rain gear for your equipment, too!

WHAT TO BRING

This is a hands-on opportunity so bring your computer! I have discovered that offering critique sessions during a Road Trip greatly increases your growth. Being able to shoot, critique, adjust and understand during a workshop is a very efficient and

rewarding way to learn.

YOUR INVESTMENT

ZOOM

I will offer a Zoom session a couple of weeks following the Road Trip. This is an ideal situation because we are all comfortable at home with our familiar computer setups. We will take a look at your imagery and I can offer critiques and other helpful and positive feedback. Then I will offer my
step-by-step process of how
I interpret
and enhance my imagery.

YOUR INVESTMENT

For your investment you will have the opportunity to photograph some of the most incredible landscapes you've ever seen. From the snow-capped mountains to the rugged coast and everything in between. Eagles, bear, moose and so much more. A chance to practice using a variety of lenses, focus stacking techniques and other fine art landscape styles.
