“STREET PORTRAITURE”

In the portion of our street photography workshop, we will wander the streets of downtown Denver and photograph the faces of people we encounter. Whether it is a face of homelessness or a business person on their way to a meeting, we will attempt to engage with them and create a candid portrait. We will experiment with close proximity portraits and at-a-distance photographs. Engaging with a subject to make a portrait will certainly create an entirely different reaction and expression than photographing them from afar.

“ARCHITECTURE”

This portion of the workshop will be spent photographing the architecture that is old, bold and exquisite. Let’s look for interesting styles and patterns, textures and contrasts of old world to modern day architecture. Let’s also look closely to the details, cornices, dentils, gargoyles, doors, windows and more. These are the subject of interesting and thought-provoking, and eclectic fine art photographs. We will create art from the things most people just pass by every day.

“STREET STORIES”

Now, let’s put it all together! This third portion of our workshop offers us the opportunity to blend our newly acquired street portrait skills with our urban architecture prowess to create some incredible stories from the streets. Can you even imagine what powerful stories you will create from combining engaging portraits with that subject’s environment? Shivers and tingles! Your imagination will be tested and your soul rewarded with your creative genius.

“POST – PROCESSING”   |   October 30   |   6p – 9p

This one is not to be missed! Now, we sit down at our computers and enhance our new style imagery. Travis and Jeff will share with you from their many years of this type of photography how they create fine art images with easy-to-repeat techniques and some awesome plugins for Lightroom and Photoshop. They will help you discover and create your own style of street photography. It’s all about discovery, creativity and lots of fun!

Join us for our street portrait “experiment”. As we share our creative ideas with each other, we will certainly be touched by the souls of the people we photograph.

This 2-day workshop has been created out of the love for studio portraiture, street portraiture and architectural photography by Colorado Master photographers Jeff Johnson and Travis Broxton. We pay homage to the greats like Henri Cartier-Bresson, Garry Winogrand, Vivian Maier, Joel Meyerowitz, Elliott Erwitt, Helen Levitt, Ian Plant and Roy DeCarava just to name a few inspirational street artists.

Check out this link to Famous Street Photographers.

Jeff Johnson grew up in a very successful portrait studio his parents ran in Northern Illinois. 42+ years of portraiture and landscape photography has perfected his skills and enhanced his passion for the art. “The connection of people with their environment is engaging and ethereal.”

Travis Broxton has been photographing people and weddings for over 30 years. And as you can probably figure out, photographing weddings are as much about telling a story as is street photography. It’s just in a different environment.

Both Jeff and Travis are talented and experienced portrait artists, love street portraiture and street photography in general. This is an incredible opportunity to see how they find and create street stories and for you to learn how to create your own images and stories for your portfolio.
