GREAT SAND DUNES

June 26 - 29, 2020

$700

Colorado's Most Famous Sand Box . . .

This is one of my favorite places to hang out. If you don't come along

. . . I am still going!!! We'll shoot a couple of sunrises and a couple of sunsets, depending on the weather, and a lot of big piles of sand in between!! We'll also spend a late night shooting the stars if you wish to do that. The Sand Dunes are nestled at the foot of the Sangre de Cristo mountain range where 5 of Colorado's Fourteeners reside. This valley offers so many views and all of these views look so different at any given time of the day. I love sunset, and sunrise, and middle of the day . . . you get the idea. You can't get a bad shot out here!

I'll also offer you image critique opportunities so you can gauge how well you are learning and improving your style.

The views are amazing and priceless to photograph. Did you know that Star Dune is the highest sand dune in North America. It's over 600 feet high! You can climb to the top if you are so inclined! It's quite the view

. . . and a heck of a workout climbing up.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Lodging -

Best Western Alamosa Inn

2005 Main Street

Alamosa, CO 81101

United States

No need to call the hotel as I have already reserved a room for you. You will pay for your room when you check in. Your reservation will be for June 26-29 ( 3nights ) Let me know if you require different arrival or departure dates.

In the Field -
Camera, tripod, filters, lenses, release cord and whatever other gear makes you happy. Sunscreen, sunglasses, bug spray and a hat are advised. Having layers of clothing is great as you can take off and put them back on as the temperature changes. Having rain gear available is not a bad idea either. And rain gear for your equipment, too! More detailed info about gear after you register.

In the Classroom -
On Monday the 29th, I will be offering a 5 hour post-processing class at the hotel. It's an additional $45 but I will share so many techniques for these type of images.

This is a hands-on opportunity so bring your computer! I'll share with you how I edit and prepare my images in Lightroom and Photoshop. I also use the NIK Software suite. Have these all loaded and running on your computer before the class, please!

Your Investment -
For your investment you will have the opportunity to photograph some of the most incredible landscapes in the national park system. The dunes have a very different look in low morning sunrise light compared to what they look like during a warm sunset lighting. The Mosca creek runs through the dunes and offers amazing patterns in the sand to photograph. One night will be for photographing the Milky Way, if you like.
