MAY 21 -24, 2021

Colorado's Most Famous Sand Box . . .

This is one of my favorite places to hang out. If you don't come along . . . I am still going!!!

We'll shoot a couple of sunrises and a couple of sunsets, depending on the weather, and a lot of big piles of sand in between!! We'll also spend a late night shooting the stars if you wish to do that. The Sand Dunes are nestled at the foot of the Sangre de Cristo mountain range where 5 of Colorado's Fourteeners reside. This valley offers so many views and all of these views look so different at any given time of the day. I love sunset, and sunrise, and middle of the day . . . you get the idea.

You can't get a bad shot out here!

I'll also offer you image critique opportunities so you can gauge how well you are learning and improving your style.

The views are amazing and priceless to photograph. Did you know that Star Dune is the highest sand dune in North America. It's over 600 feet high! You can climb to the top if you are so inclined! It's quite the view . . . and a heck of a workout climbing up.

God's Sandbox

Wake Up World

We’ll capture sunsets and sunrises of these amazing dunes and mountainous landscape. One evening we will stay out late to photograph the Milky Way, if weather permits. I will be offering image critiques and Photoshop tips and tricks to show you how to enhance your newly acquired images into works of art!

Bring your favorite camera gear, tripod, shutter release, filters and laptop with Photoshop CC and Lightroom CC (already installed and working)

All skill levels are encouraged to come and play in this atmosphere beyond words. After the workshop you will see why words can't explain this unusual and unique collection of  photographically rich landscape. Seriously!

Here are some of the things I hope to encourage your photographic growth in:

  • Image pre-visualization

  • Composition

  • Exposure

  • Depth of field

  • Lens selection

  • Image prep in Lightroom

  • Image enhancement in Photoshop

  • and so much more . . .

If you'd like to see what you too can create, visit my fine art web site at

This workshop is limited to 10 attendees so that I can run around and get with each of you to help and instruct as much as you desire. It is open to all levels of skill & desire so don’t be shy . . .

A Journey of One

In the Classroom -
I will be offering a critique session where I will look at your images and offer some praise and ideas. On Monday from 11a to 2p there will be a post-processing class so you can learn some of the processing techniques and thoughts I use for my images from the Sand Dunes. There is no additional as I will share many techniques for this type of imagery.

Your Investment -
For your investment you will have the opportunity to photograph some of the most incredible landscapes in the national park system. The dunes have a very different look in low morning sunrise light compared to what they look like during a warm sunset lighting. The Mosca creek runs through the dunes and offers amazing patterns in the sand to photograph.
